Bolt has now been named "Fletcher," and instead of him leaving us this weekend, we now have the pleasure of his company until the following weekend.

Yesterday with the children back at Primary school and college, we got back in the swing of car trips for the remaining pups of Blottie's litter. Fletcher aka Bolt has had his first trip and Skipper had his first trip yesterday and all went well with both of them in the car. Today saw Dimpsey Dot having her first trip in the car to Barnstaple to drop off one of our sons to college and being a later drop off, I had time to remember to pick up a camera to catch a bit of footage of her in the car for the first time. Kath took Murphy to the vets yesterday for his second vaccinations. "Thanks for the lovely photo Kath. Only a week now, and you can get him out for walks. Jane x"
The five remaining pups of Blottie's litter of ten pups now ten weeks old, had their second Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvo (DHP) vaccination along with the drops up the nose for Kennel Cough (KC) today. All went well and I took the vet visiting to do the puppy jabs, as an opportunity to get them to take blood samples from Ernest, Blottie and Bumble for DNA tests I want to get done for them using the LABOKLIN VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY (UK). It's time to invest the big litter Blottie blessed me with, back in to the Poundlane spaniel project. Ernest's 1/4 Poodle bit goes back to our Reggie who is already Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd-PRA) tested clear. His Cavalier bit, his Dad, Toby and maternal Grandmother, Dolly are Episodic Falling + Dry Eye Curly Coat syndrome tested clear. I've sent off bloods for him to be tested with the Poodle DNA Bundle: DM exon2 + MH + NE + prcd-PRA option 1 + vWD1, although he should be clear for prcd-PRA, because his Poodle Grandfather is clear. This bundle still works out cheaper to pay for than paying for the other four genetic tests individually. I have now realized looking on their website there are two new tests I would of liked to of got done for him Progressive retinal atrophy ( rcd4-PRA) / LOPRA and Macrothrombocytopenia ( MTC-D ). I will get them done the next time I have the vet visiting us.
With Blottie and Bumble being Brittany cross Cavalier, I already know through parental genetic testing and testing them, that they are clear for Episodic Falling + Dry Eye Curly Coat syndrome. So for their Cavalier side they are now being checked for Degenerative Myelopathy / Degenerative Radiculomyelopathy) DM (Exon 2) + Hyperuricosuria / Urate Stones (HUU, SLC) + MH (Malignant Hyperthermia) + Macrothrombocytopenia ( MTC-D ) + Muscular Dystrophy (MD). I could of opted to just test their Brittany Dad, Henry for C3 Deficiency (Complement Component 3 deficiency) saving the cost of one test, but by the time I pay the vet to take blood from another dog and as you already were taking blood from the his two daughters, I decided to just get them tested for C3 Deficiency (Complement Component 3 deficiency). All three were really good to have their bloods taken. The vet was impressed with how good they were, especially as with Ernest and Bumble she had to take blood twice, as the first withdrawal was not quite enough to fill each test tube for each test. They say you need between 0.5 ml to 1 ml of whole blood for each test. Turn around for these tests are from 1 to 3 weeks. Fingers crossed. Hoping not to get a spoke in my wheel. Blottie's pups will be ten weeks old tomorrow. Hope all is going well with her five pups that have already left us. I'm here if you need me. Bolt will leaves us this coming Saturday. Charlie, Skipper and Dimpsey Dot are with us for another three weeks, leaving after they have completed their full primary course of vaccinations. Murphy meet his half Grandaunt, Florrie. Florrie shares the same Dad, Charlie as Smudge, who is Murphy's maternal Grandmother. We bred Florrie, who is now coming 8 years old, her Mum was a lovely black and tan girl we had called, Bonnie. "Hi Jane Thought I’d share a couple of pictures from this afternoon when Murphy and Florrie met each other. Florrie was very patient and Murphy was smitten. Hopefully the beginning of a beautiful friendship! We intend to take them walking together regularly. Murphy has really settled in - he is very cheeky and smart, and has bundles of energy. Toilet and crate training is going well. I’ve been teaching him sit today as a distraction from hand nibbling and he’s picked it up so quickly. I would like your advice about eating everything he sees on the ground… anything I can do about this? I’m keeping the house clear but it’s harder to control when we are out visiting. I’m getting better at catching him before he hoovers up leaves/twigs etc but he is very speedy! Thanks Kath" "Hello Kath,
as a puppy, much like a baby, at this age they investigate everything by putting it in their mouths. Most grow out of it, but you should start teaching him the "leave" command which will help. Teaching a dog to leave is a very important command. It should be covered in the book, "The Perfect Puppy," and here is a link How to Train Your Dog to Leave It - dummies which might help. Lovely to here that he has meet with Florrie. The photos have not come through with this email though. Kind regards Jane " "Hello Kath, the photos were on the original email you sent. I just found them. Duh! Lovely to see Florrie with her half Grandnephew. Janex" Bumble is now around six weeks pregnant and is blossoming Jean just sent me this sweet photo of Skye asleep in shoe
Today I was visited by a really nice family, which had rung up earlier in the week, and Bolt now has his family to join, as they return next weekend to pick him up. So that is now all Blottie's pups with homes to go to, expect of course Teagol, who we are keeping. Lovely sunshine here today, so nice to get a few pics of the pups enjoying it courtesy of our son, Thomas. Penny sent me this lovely update for Little Jack aka Little Bertie today. "Hi Jane We thought you and the family might like an update on Jack now he has been with us for nearly a week. He has settled in really well, it is hard to believe it is just a week. On the whole house training has gone well, some accidents but he is doing really well, especially since it is really cold in the outside pen, but we are getting better at anticipating his needs. Eating is fine, he knows where his food is and takes himself off to it whenever he wants to. He loves playing with his toys, in particularly the cat scratching post is a great favourite. The fox soft toy is a favourite too, making it squeak loudly. The puppy teething toys are helping him not to bite everything in sight although our dressing gowns are a big attraction. The first couple of nights were definitely like having a new born again. The crate was in the kitchen, but he wasn’t keen on being in there, he has been much happier in his bed in the living room, we use the baby alarm to make sure he is ok overnight. The last couple of nights have been brilliant, short nights, but not interrupted. Jack is very keen on the cat, it isn’t yet reciprocated, but Claude is standing his ground, curious and just taking evasive action when chased. Our very large cat is about three times the size of the puppy We have taken Jack on a walk, on the lead, around the garden, grass was wonderful, and he is very keen on chasing leaves. All in all he is a brilliant character, very bright, and a joy to have around. Best wishes Penny" "Thanks Penny,
for such a lovely update and photos of Jack. Sounds like you are all enjoying each others company. The little black and white boy, Bolt you saw when visiting us, has also found his family today and they pick him up next weekend. Really good to hear from you, and thanks again. Kind regards Jane " Got a lovely message from Andrea a few days ago, who has Ginty from Blottie's litter. "Hi Jane, Just thought I'd message you as I was rifling through my paperwork just now and upon closer inspection I seem to have two identical puppy contracts. Would you like me to send one back to you? Ginty is settling in fantastically well and I'm so proud of how fast she's bonded with us all, what a lovely little puppy. Kind Regards, Andrea" "Hello Andrea,
thanks for that. I have just checked and it seems I forgot to keep my copy back. If you don't mind posting it back to me, I would be most grateful or you could scan it and send it on an attachment for me to print off if easier. Good to hear Ginty is settling in so well. Kind regards Jane " Took this bit of video this evening trying to catch Blottie playing with her pups and ended up catching an epic tug-of-war battle between Charlie and Bolt, and Dimpsey Dot disgracing herself. Yes, the pups have totally wrecked our jute mat, but it has been a lot of fun for them and a lesson learnt for us. Don't get a jute rug, as puppies really like chewing jute. Charlie and Dimpsey Dot
Got this bit of video of Charlie with his Mum, Blottie, which at first I thought was chewing her ear, but turned out it was her leather collar that I had just put back on her. This update arrived yesterday from Jean who picked up Skye on Monday. "Hello Jane Day one update : Feeding and eating well . Toileting going quite well ( fingers crossed ) . Few little squeeks in the night ( to be expected) but soon settled after wee and cuddle . Full of spirit when awake not sure who’s more full on Skye or Toby (grandson ) . Thank you for the goodie bag everything in it thoughtful and extremely useful , great help to settle in . Have been trying to find suitable pen - gate for My daughter when Skye visits her : noted Think Murphy’s family had one To fence off , is it possible to ask where she purchased it from Much appreciated . Love to All Jean xx Toby x First time in her bed lasted 15 min . Then back to blanket by radiator" "Hello Jean,
good to hear all is going well. She looks at home in the photos. Looks like Toby likes is not real Skye. The pen that Kath has for Murphy is a child's playpen. They make brilliant pens for puppies. I have two joined together on the patio to keep the pups safe. You can find a good selection at Argos Playpens | Argos or search Amazon or Ebay using child's playpen. Hope this helps. Jane x" When I took a second look at Kath's pen for Murphy I realized it was actually a purpose made puppy pen, not a child's pen, which has a very good height to it, so got the link from Kath, for Jean to take a look at it. "Hello Jean, I asked Kath where she got her pen, as I noticed it has such a good height to it. She said it was a bit pricey, but it is good. She found it on amazon and here is the link https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BUPB1IE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Regards Jane x" "Thank you Jane Jean X" As requested, a video of me brushing the teeth of one of our dogs. The dog in the video is Treacle, who is the paternal Grandmother of the litter of pups we have at the moment from Blottie, and are expecting in the near future from Blottie's sister, Bumble. Treacle is a first cross Cavalier/Poodle (miniature). I choose her to do the video with, as the request came from someone who has one of her siblings, but from a previous litter to her, out of her Mum, Dolly. Hope the video helps, Julie. Sorry, I could only find a pair of crocs to wear and unfortunately, husband David was at work.
