Yesterday we noticed some of these pups, the eyes have started to open. Over the next few days we should see all their eyes open. It takes a couple days for them to open fully. Just loaded up the theme song from Jaws, and if you can time playing it as the pup in the video above emerges through Blottie's hind legs to suckle. It should make you smile or even laugh. In the video is Smudge (Mum to Blottie) and I took the video, as my son, Thomas said, "I'm not sure Smudge likes being hoovered. I wonder that she just tolerates it." You have to careful with dogs, they can be very stoic, and something you do to them, you think is funny. They can actually not enjoy and are just putting up with it. I would hope that most would see from this bit of video, that Smudge is getting some pleasure and enjoyment from the situation. Received a couple updates a day or two ago for Millie's Seven new arrivals back in March 2012. The first is for Bayley "Hi Jane, I can’t believe Bayley is going to be 7yrs in a couple of weeks. We are going on holiday so won’t be around for his birthday, but he will be spending with his old friend Toby the labradoodle. He has grown in to a beautiful little dog, his temperament is wonderful. Your careful breeding produces lovely puppies. I wondered if his Mum or Dad sit with one foot folded underneath his leg. He always sits like that, also the seal position. Congratulations on the safe delivery of Blottie’s puppies. She is a lovely Mum so the pups will be a nice temperament. We are very lucky to have one of your Cavapoos. Not many responsible people are breeding them now. They are so sweet, everyone admires Bayley. Happy birthday to all Bayley’s siblings, I hope they are all doing well. Kind regards Glenda Moran" "Hello Glenda, lovely to hear from you. Millie very often lies like that. Have a wonderful holiday and give Great Uncle Bayley a cuddle from us all for his 7th Birthday later in the month. He is Blottie's Mum's half brother. Love from Poundlane Jane x" The second one is for Lola "Hi Jane, I hope this message finds you, your family and pack well. I have been speaking (messaging) a lady today who seems to share your (our) passion for breeding healthy cavaliers. I recommended your website to her, but she already follows your blog with interest! I wanted to let you know that we think and talk about you often. We think you and what you're doing for the breed is truly remarkable. I've been doing lots of research recently about the health of the Cavalier and was really interested to learn that in The Netherlands, they complete thorough health tests routinely. Needless to say, Lola is absolutely amazing. She will be 7 on the 19th March. We'd be lost without her. Best wishes, James, Will and Lola xxx" "Hello James and Will,
sorry for not replying sooner. Great to hear from you, and that you still tune in to the blog. Yes, in the Netherlands the kennel club has a lot more higher health criteria for registering of pups than the UK KC, and it has shown great results for heart health from ten years of using a heart protocol. Glad to hear Lola is good, and with her being Smudge's half-sister, who is mum to Blottie, she has just become a Great Auntie again. Thanks for keeping in touch. Love from us all at Poundlane Jane x" Happy Birthday to Millie's Pups coming up to 7 years old, on the 19th March. Hope your families and you are all well x "Hi Jane - lovely to see you are still busy and now with a new set of pups to prepare for the outside world! Glad all went well with Blottie. Just wanted to update with photos of a year old Eva - and so lovely to see updates of her litter siblings. She is a beautifully natured girl and such a cutie, thank you." "Hello Sandie,
thanks for the update and that is a lovely photo of her. She looks so much like her Mum, Bumble. Love from us all at Poundlane Jane x" Having a few problems at the moment. New laptop arriving soon, so hope it won't be such a pain in the arse editing photos and videos, and getting them on here. Just a bit of video to show how well and back in shape Blottie is after whelping. She has been jumping in and out of her pen (of her own accord) since one day post whelping. There is a chair one side, which we put there after she jumped out the first time, but most often she does not use it. In the video with her to start with is Dad to her pups, Casper, and then Rosie (first cross Brittany/Cavalier), Blottie's daughter, Teagol (tricolour spaniel) and the Great Grandmother to Blottie's pups, Millie (Blenheim) can be seen in the video on the right. Blottie's nine pups all doing well at three days old. As Blottie's nine pups hit 2 days old, some live action from the whelping box. "Hi Jane, I have been meaning to email with an update for ages and finally got round to it, spurred on by reading the lovely news that Blottie has had 9 beautiful Blenheim babies. 💕💕Congratulations! Luna was thoroughly spoilt yesterday with homemade peanut and carrot doggy muffins and presents for her 1st birthday! I don’t think a dog could be loved anymore than she is. She is so tolerant and loving and has been such a comfort to Ava, who is having a very tough time at the moment. It has been lovely reading all the updates from Luna’s litter mates. She looks so much like Darla and Bertie from certain angles. The same adorable expressions! She was weighed a couple of weeks ago and is now 7.2 kg. I don’t think she will get much bigger now, she is the perfect size for a lap. Her temperament sounds very much like Darla. She loves exploring holes in hedges, chasing birds and cuddling up, although she’s not always so great at coming back when called! It’s a work in progress and we continue to attend training classes and are soon to try out beginners agility! Thank you once again for breeding such lovely dogs Jane. We feel very lucky to have one of your pups. They make such lovely pets. Best wishes, Jenni, Mark, Ava and Isla" "Hello Jenni,
great to hear from you, and see that she still looks like Darla's identical twin. Lovely to hear that she is such a comfort to Ava. Hard to believe it's close to a year ago you first came and visited us. I was hoping she would be a good match for your family, and she sounds like she has fitted in and is very much loved. Thanks for getting in touch and for all the photos. I don't think you could question who her Dad is. Love from us all at Poundlane Jane x" Puppies double their birth weight in the first seven days. You can already see Blottie's nine pups are growing at just over one day old. Blottie's nine pups get 24 hours under their little belts, and all seems to be looking good. If there was a League of Mums, Blottie would be premiership material, skills pawed to her by her Mum, and Grandmother who were both exceptional Mums. Her calm approach to it all is something to behold. Photos are from this morning, and note closed eyes, and closed ears. Pups are born with eyes and ears sealed shut, and they will start opening, anything from around 10 to 14 days old. The eyes though will not start to be able to focus until around 28 days old. Touch and smell is all they are going on at the moment, and it is very important even at this age (especially if they are going to be family dogs) that they are regularly handled by humans, getting the bonding process started. So it is very important that you breed from bitches, that are tempered to except this interference without causing them stress. Blottie as all the bitches we breed from, is totally okay with any of us she knows at this stage handling her pups. This is a big test of a bitches temperament. Blottie passes it with flying colours. Interesting birth fact with this litter, only two born forwards, all the rest came out backwards. Just a few more photos of Blottie and her pups before I'm off the computer for the evening. |
