Primrose and her pups now 3 days old are all doing okay. Primrose is already happy to leave them of her own accord when she needs to go outside for ablutions or just to lie outside the whelping box in between nursing them. When I came home from milking this morning she was with the pack to greet me at the gate on my return and on coming in she then just popped back into see her pups and check they were all okay. Rearing puppies in my opinion, for the best mental health of the bitch, she needs freedom to come and go as she pleases with her pups. One of the reasons I dislike puppy farming is knowing how mentally hard it must be on bitches confined with pups almost continuously for at least the first four weeks after giving birth. The stress the bitch must go through and transfer to her pups being kept like this cannot be good for her or the mental health development of her pups.
