Swings & Roundabout !

31/12/2011

Well its nearly the end of the year & from Dolly's & Ysabel's litters we have five pups still with us but in the next couple days they will also leave for their new homes hopefully as on Tuesday Izzabel should of left for her new home & with Peter here ready to leave with her a very unfortunate accident happened as one of my sons went out on the patio not looking behind him shutting the door right on Izzabel's leg.
We calmed Izzabel down from the shock of the accident but from her reaction & obvious pain in her leg I new this was a bit more than a bruise. Peter was very good about the whole situation & it was agreed that we would get her to the vets & Peter would make his way back to Leicester & await news.
She was given pain relief & an anti-flammatory & being a bank holiday we then took her back for an X-ray the next day. This showed a small chip at the bottom end of her radius. It was decided to get a second opinion on this from an orthopedic vet & we hope to have this on Tuesday.
My vet feels it will be a case of just keeping her quiet & hopefully surgery will not be needed. The main worry is tendon damage now & athritis in the joint in later life.
She is doing really well. She has a slight limp at times limp but this does not seem to deter her from wanting to play, so the hardest thing we face at the moment is trying to not let her be to boisterous which is easier said than done with a 8 week old puppy.
So with pups leaving & Izzabel's accident let alone Christmas & the New Year with the children to occupy it has been a bit of a stressful week. My appologise to emails I have yet not answered but will hope to get back on top of things in the next week.

Below are a group of photo's of pups playing with my apron string. This is now put up out the way but the photo's show just how much fun you can have with an apron string.
We are already getting reports back from the pups that have left us over the Christmas period. Alfie who went first on the 21st his family have rang me to say he is settling in well & is house training really well. Otis's & Poppy's family's have both rang me to say they got home okay & they are settling in.
Margaret has spoiled me already with photo's below & a very cute video of Bobby her Cavalier now 12 years old playing with Bella. Margaret thank you. You look as happy as a pig in muck with your Bobby & Bella.
Bobby & Bella playing together below.
Lucy's Cavapoo pups are now 4 weeks old. They are getting more playful with each day & Lucy is doing a wonderful job with them. Within the next week they will be chosen by their respective family's & be named. Primrose as you can see in the photo's likes to lie with them & Lucy is happy with her doing this as she let Primrose suckle her when she had her last litter & Primrose was over 4 months old. I think when Dolly's & Ysabel's pups all go that Lucy's pups are not going to want for mothering.
Lastly tonight we say farewell to 2011 a year that has been sprinkled with ups & downs & maybe in the first half for Poundlane more downs than ups but life is swings & roundabouts & if you can manage a smile & laugh which is the best medicine your doing okay, as they say you have to get up dust yourself off & start all over again so from all of us at Poundlane human & canine we wish everyone a Happy New Year  & dust yourself off for 2012 !

Dear All
Bella has been re named - Turbo Flying Jaws. She is unbelievable.
So much energy, but very attentive of what Bob's says.
Issabel is in the best hands and I nearly shut Bella in our patio doors,
it happens so quickly.
Margaret.

Rosie cried until we got to the petrol station near you, and then when the car stopped she calmed down and relaxed. Pretty soon after we set off again she was asleep, and she slept until Bristol when she asked for a stop at the services. After that she went back to sleep until we got home.

Once we got home she had a cautious sniff around, and pretty quickly she was running up and down and playing with her new toys. After a very short nap she got up and let it be known she wanted to go out, did a quick toliet and went back inside for a bite to eat and a drink and some more playing. 20 minutes later she wanted outside again to chase leaves in the garden - I have a feeling that's going to become a favourite game, repeated requests to go out ... but only to chase leaves.

She's very relaxed, happy and contented, despite having her name called pretty much constantly. The kids are already coming round to the advise that if you sit back and observe she will take an interest, and if you chase she will run. She just decided she wanted to try chewing the kids toys, but when I handed her the chew toy you gave us she immediately got stuck into that instead. She's very well behaved, and on the occasions she gets into mischief she responds very well to what you say. She seems to be settling in quickly, I think she's very much enjoying her top dog status.

Hi Jane,
Well, what a tubby little star Edward has turned out to be! He settled straight down in the car and we woke him up when we arrived home 3 hours later! He had a good sleep after settlinh himself.
He is fast asleep now after having an energetic play in the garden chasing leaves!
Thank you so much for our lovely little boy,

Hello All,

Oh boy am I having fun, my new Mum and Dad say that although they have had two CKCS puppies before I am different. I can climb stairs already and I am very good with my toilet (most of the time) I do not like my crates - Bob, the big dog here doesn't go in one except to travel. So I yell as loud as I can, but I don't win. I am winning at night though, I sleep on new Mum's neck in bed!! well Bob sleeps in bed too. They have been putting me in a night time crate but I made so much noise.

I am eating well and Mum insists on brushing and combing me and stick something called a toothbrush in my mouth. It's pink and fits on her finger.

I LOVE the garden, I can get up to really good speed and go round and round and up and down and play with all sorts of things. Funny Bob only goes on the lawn.

Bob has started to play with me and new Mum and Dad say he looks so much less bored that he was before I came. He is even playing with some of my toys - or are they his.

Well I cannot keep my eyes open and they are not letting me play again so I think I will have a little sleep. Later they say I am to go out in the car thing again, in the travelling crate with Bob this time.
It's to get me used to car (whatever that is) travel.

Byee for now
love
Bella

Hi Jane, just to let you know Tinkerbell (and the rest of us) arrived home safely, traffic was a nightmare on the motorway so took us 2 hrs 40 mins. After whimpering and trying to escape over my shoulder for 30 mins or so, she settled down and went to sleep. On arriving home she wasn't fazed by Charley, in fact after a few sniffs from both parties, she proceeded to chase Charley around the family room yapping as she went. Very funny. Have had a bit of a exploration of the garden but seemed to be a bit jumpy every now and again (after going out with her again, have just realised it was the rabbit coming up and down his ramp as it's been dark each time she's been out!). She certainly seems to be making herself at home - in Charley's bed, playing with his toys and trying to eat his food! Will update with photos as soon as I'm organised. Michelle x

This is just our fifth day with Poppy and we are all totally smitten! Toilet training is going really well and last night we all got a good night's sleep as she (almost!) slept through the night in her crate with only five minutes of crying! Hoping that wasn't just a fluke as the previous night she cried so much I gave in and slept downstairs with her. Her favourite things so far are: the garden, leaves, the broom, monkey toy, her puppy Kong, her chew bone and snuggling/sleeping on laps, legs and chests.
It's lovely to hear how all the other pups are getting on and we are all hoping Izzabel makes a speedy recovery.
