Some lovely photo's tonight that I have just been sent by my vet of Smudge's nine Cavapoo pups just after 8 of them had been delivered by cesarean on Friday. Smudge is doing it all herself needing no help. She has loads of milk & although I offered milk feeds over the first 24 hours to make sure all where getting enough milk it is obvious that they are all feeding well. Smudge is a robust girl who loves her food which helps when they have a litter this size as she will keep her strength up with her big appetite. I look at her with this large brood & think some things are just amazing & Smudge certainly is. Photo's tonight from Tracey, Margaret & Terence who have a Poundlane Cavapoo. Tracey you really do not need introducing with Roxy who looks so proud with her rosette from a local dog show in the best crossbreed class. Roxy is from Lucy's first litter with her dad being my sister's Miniature Poodle Rollo. Roxy will hopefully be getting company by the end of the year all going well with Primrose. Time flys as it only seems yesterday you rang me up for the first time Tracey. The next group of photo's are of Sadie who is from Ysobel's last litter born the start of November 2011 with Reggie being the dad. Sadie is our Belle's sister. Terence whos family she has joined go sailing & Sadie will be going with them, cutting quite a dash in her life jacket by the look of things. Terence says she is doing well but just one problem is she is friendly with everyone which can be a bit of a worry especially today when you hear more often of dogs being snatched in parks. "Sadie on the high seas." That sounds like a good title for a childrens book. Lastly is Bella who is from Dolly's last litter born the end of October 2011. Belle joined Margaret's family which includes Bob a spritely old Cavalier boy. Bella & Bob get on well & Margaret says "Bob has shown on holiday on the beach in wales playing with Bella that there's still life in the old dog yet." Lovely to hear Margaret that the two get on well together. The photo shows Bella with a petal from a pear tree on her nose which Margaret says "Stayed there for at least 10 minutes or more. " Thanks everyone for lovely photo's & as always a pleasure to hear & see how you are all getting on. Cleo's pups are growing fast & have just started having a bit of food as coming up to four weeks old but as you can see from the photo's food every where & then they fall asleep on it. These pups have started to get very playful & will hope to get some action photo's of soon as when they are playing I forget my camera & then get the camera & their asleep. Smudge is coping really well with her rather large brood of nine Cavapoo pups. As a first time mum she is taking it all in her stride having loads of milk & very relaxed about it all. Certainly her mother Millie's daughter. I will be intouch with all waiting on this litter in the next few days, as feeling a bit jet lagged at this time but will get back in the fold tomorrow. Millie's Cavapoo pups will be six weeks old on Monday & will start leaving in around two weeks time which is scary how quick this time has gone.
Tonight I have loaded up a video my husband caught of them investigating their new bed rather excitedly. Smudge has an amazing nine pups but as I feared due to her size a cesarean was needed after the first was born. Their are five golden girls & 4 golden boys. Smudge is doing well & has loads of milk but will be providing back up for her for the first days offering bottle feds every 3 to 4 hours just to keep all pups up to speed. A pup at this stage can quickly fade if not sucking enough & as such a big litter for first time Mum Smudge it is wise to offer a bit of back up help for her. Long day as Smudge going into labour collided with something else I had to do today which I could not get out of, so had to get husband home to hold the fort & when I arrived back a couple hours later with the other car not home rang the vets to confirm my husband had took Smudge in as she was not progressing after giving birth to the first pup but all has ended okay with Mum & pups all seeming well at this time. I also had to milk tonight for a couple hours, so finally getting in a 7pm to have some tea lovingly cooked by my husband was most welcome as I realised I had not eaten since 7am. Off for some puppy cuddling & feeding now. I think sleep will be with me tonight before my head hits the pillow. Smudge has started labour with her first pup a little girl being born at 8.50am this morning. Been up the last couple nights with her, so my cognitive functions are a little in tatters at the moment. She was born quite easily as she was backwards. She is sucking well with first time Mum looking at her slightly awe struck. Normally with a first litter its the second or third pup the mother really kicks in with a dog.
Fingers crossed and will post later with news. Done a lots of blogs tonight as it seems if I put to many photo's on it won't publish. Millie's Cavapoo pups photo's are spread over two blogs. They are now 5 weeks old and into every thing. They are going outside weather permitting. They are already three times their size at birth and it is amazing the growth pups make in the first weeks. Millie has just been a very special mum and with peopl over the last few days visiting her pups she has happily shown of her litter especially if she also gets plenty of cuddles and smoothes. Smudge or as we call her now Effylump as she has got so big is looking really well but has slowed up. She jumped of the sofa a couple nights ago forgetting herself and yelped as I think she may of twinked her back. We had half an hour of a panting very uncomfortable dog but luckily she had not prematurely set of her labour. She is now just over 8 weeks from her first mating and on thursday will be 8 weeks from her last mating. I think anytime from the end of the week we could be looking at her going into labour. Cleo's Cavapoo pups are three weeks old tomorrow and are getting about now wobbling around their bed. Cleo is doing a grand job with her little family. This will be the third time trying to publish Millie and pups photo's as they reach the maximus cutiness stage. Here goes again ! Cleo's Cavapoo pups are now two weeks old and are growing well. Their eyes are now almost fully open with their ears also starting to open as well. Cleo is doing a great job being a first time mum and is happy to show them of as Sarah visited us last weekend to see the little black girl they will be having. They live close, so it is nice that they can come and see them at such an early age and get a real idea of how much they grow in the first 8 weeks of life. Smudge is now 7 weeks pregnant but by the size of her she may of taken from her first mating making her around 4 days further on. She is well but has now slowed up a lot and is happy to just amble about the place. Can now feel the pups moving and would expect in the next few days to be able to see them moving. Having a bit of trouble to blog the last couple days as the page won't publish for some reason, so on my fourth attempt now. Millie's pups are 4 weeks old now & doing really well with their collars on now. The two boys have a blue collar & green collar on. Will hope this loads this time & will try to get more on later. Spring is in the air as Jessica & Toby enjoy the sunshine playing like two little lurchers.
The rain did come for the Easter holidays & did it come on Monday with avengence with constant rain for the day. Julie & her family which includes Poppy from Dolly's Christmas litter braved it to visit us on their way back to London after a holiday in Devon. Thankfully Julie sent me photo's with one being of their visit, as guess what I was busy talking & forgot to take any photo's myself. The one of their visit has a rare photo with me in it but I did not realise I was in the frame, so not quite sure whats going on with my face in the photo, so to reasure all that are yet to meet me, my son took a photo of us together today & he thought I ought to upload it incase the other photo scares anyone. Children who'd have them, as if I had an ego before I had mine I certainly have not got one now.lol Any way enough of my vanity. It was lovely to see Poppy & she is as pretty in the flesh as in her photo's. She is very friendly & Julie said she is very brave which is one of the things I recall about her as although she was the smallest of the litter she did not lack braveness & was always first to investigate anything new. Thanks again Julie for letting me see Poppy again & hopefully you will be down this way again in the future. After the rain of monday we have had now a couple nice days with abit of a chilly wind but the sun has been out which always makes everything brighter. I have been able to get some lovely photo's of the dogs outside & under are weeping willow which offers shade when the sun is out. Ysobel, Dolly & Lucy at this time are under house arrest as they have all come onto heat together & we do not want Reggie or any other dog having a clandestine meeting with any these three until the spring of 2013. Smudge is now around 6 weeks pregnant & is really well & looking really big & will try to get some photo's of her blooming in the next few days. My mum's Cleo's Cavapoo pups are going on well & are now a week old. Cleo has got over her cesarean really well & has loads of milk & is enjoying being a mum. Millie's Cavapoo litter is now just over 3 weeks old & we have had the first break out of the whelping box with one pup yesterday some how getting out & another doing the same today, so will be looking to remove the whelping box in a few days time for a lower lipped bed that the pups can get out of & then can get back into again. This bunch are a very forward lot already very mobile & up for adventure. Happy Easter to everyone ! The weather here in the UK seems to have come a week early for Easter & instead of the brilliant sunshine last weekend now the children are home & the Easter weekend is upon us, the weather is decidely chilly & overcast but at least its not lashing down with rain, yet ! This last week has flown past & last weekend I had a guest staying Fizz. Fizz is from Ysobel's first ever litter by my sister's miniature poodle Rollo & is a beautiful Cavapoo girl. She had come to hopefully go in pups to Reggie. Reggie's charm worked on her & hopefully in a few weeks time I will hear if pregnancy has been confirmed. These will be a litter of f1b's which is a first cross then crossed back to a purebreed of one of the breeds in the first cross. Hope that makes sense. Smudge is doing well now just going past her 5th week of her gestation with her & Reggie giving me the runaround this morning. Out for a walk & they both disappeared together but alot of whistling & the two mud monster's did turn up looking very happy with themselves. Belle's leg is going on well with her off any pain killers now & just a slight limp. We have now taken her crate down which we where using to keep her in at times to restrain her activity but as you will see in the photo's she had company in her crate. A couple updates & photo's of Spencer from Lucy's last litter & Otis from Ysobel's last litter & if Belle's brother. They are both doing well. Spencer has just finished his puppy classes & Otis I might get to see in a week or so's time as his family are holidaying in Cornwall & if time will pop in on the way through. That brings me to Poppy who is from Dolly's last litter who with her family we will hope to see on Monday & I must remember to take some photo's of the visit. My mum's Cleo is doing well with her 5 Cavapoo pups now 3 days old. They are very lively little crew & Cleo is proving a very good mum. Millie & her Cavapoo pups below now will be three weeks old on Monday. They are a cracking bunch of bookends. They are getting about now, verbalising & loveliest of all which always tickles me is they now wagg their little tails on you touching them or on hearing you talk to them. You would think when I see them wagging their tails for the first time I have never seen this phenomenon as l call anyone in the house excitedly to view this very cute gesture. I suppose its connection that moment the pups acknowledge your there. Its been a long 48 hours and my Mum's little Cleo has had 5 Cavapoo pups. This will be a surprise for everyone. Cleo is my mum's little Cavalier & she is 3 years old, she has on occasion been seen in photo's on my blog when she wanders over from my mum's annexe to play with our dogs. My mum tried her a year ago but no pups happened, so mum tried Reggie 12 months later & Cleo has produced 5 lovely pups. They did have to be delivered by cesarean as the first pup decided to come bum first with legs back, so yesterday evening was spent observing her & on examining her after her waters had broken & realising the pup was bum first with legs back l spent the night traveling out to Bideford at around midnight with Cleo to then pick her up around 3am & after a 5am start the morning before & the children home, tonight putting my head down on a pillow will be very welcome. This is the only litter Cleo will have & my mum is like a mother hen with her little brood. Cleo is doing really well she is a very sweet gentle natured girl & motherhood is coming naturally to her even though she missed the birth which can cause bonding problems sometimes especially with a first time mum. Cleo is very much attached to her new borns. She has 3 golden/apricot boys, 1 black boy & 1 black girl. I will be intouch with people on my waiting lists about this litter. Funny how you do not have a cesarean for a couple years & then have two straight off but all are well which is the most important thing. Millie's brood are now over 14 days old & I got this video of them on Monday at 2 weeks old. As you can see they are all going on well. Now over twice the size born now.
