Just two pups left of Bumble's litter of eight pups, Saffron and Lottie. Lottie we are keeping and Saffron leaves us this Monday. I received the first update for Darla a couple days ago, but was unaware, as my husband, David had opened the email, and had forgotten to tell me. "Dear Jane Tried to post this comment but failed "Darla had her vaccinnation today too and the vet is impressed that she looks so much like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, but 'without the bulging eyes'. She was very good, despite a busy waiting room and an over excited dog who barked at her." She's doing very well, is madly in love with Harvey and keeps trying to impress him. He's being very patient with her even when she pushes past him to see what food he's getting in his bowl, and tried to steal his chew today. She's learning to sit when she wants to be picked up and coped very well with a car journey to a pet shop - where she insisted on saying hello to a ruby cavalier and was very patient with a toddler who stroked her gently, and meeting both Lauren and Samuel's friends. She loves playing in the garden and sitting and watching the world go by, as well as barking at a cat who dared to walk past. A few photos attached. I sent you an email yesterday after Darla's vaccinations, please let me know if you haven't received it and I'll send it again. She's had a stream of admirers visit and my son's Psychology A level study group are here now and all want to take her home with them! She's started sitting on request and going to her bed when tired. She gets a bit manic when she's tired but doesn't want to miss out, and thinks everything Harvey is given to eat it better than hers. Harvey buried a rawhide chew in the garden, but she dug it up and ran off with it. Luckily he's very patient and only gave a frustrated growl. We've got part of the back garden fenced off as it's not fully puppy proofed yet so I'm making sure he can escape there with his chews. I did receive your email yesterday, but husband, David must of opened it and forgot to tell me. I've just seen it. I think Weebly, who host my website must be having some issues at the moment, as comments could not be submitted again, but are working again, at this moment. Kind regards Jane" Received an email yesterday evening to tell me Luna had got to her new home safely "Hi Jane, We arrived home at about 3.30. Luna was amazing on the journey back. She slept most of the time on the back seat but got out to stretch her legs and have some water when we stopped for lunch. She is exploring and sniffing everything. It must all smell very strange to her! The cats have eyed her up but not run away which is a good start. Luna is vaguely interested in them but also pretty apprehensive. Luna is a really lovely little puppy and has been such a fun pup to rear. One of the best to travel in the car from day one. One of the more reserved of the pups to start with, but we have watched her confidence blossom. I wish Jenni, her husband and their girls all the best with Luna. She's going to make you a wonderful family dog. Ysobel (11 years old) and her daughter, Primrose (8 years old) lie asleep together Treacle's five pups got one week under their belts yesterday. All looks to be going well. Lottie, Saffron and Luna went to the vets this morning to complete their primary courses of vaccinations. We had to park a bit of a way from the vets and I was running close to being late. It's hard walking three puppies on leads across a car park in a town if you are in a hurry, as everyone who sees you coos and wants a smooth and/or a cuddle (of the puppies that is). The three of them were very good about all the attention. I received this update for Darla the evening of the day she left us, "Dear Jane As you can see in the photos Darla is safely home with Lauren. The traffic was stop/start on our journey back so she napped and looked up at the noisy motorbikes and lorries. We put her in our front garden when we got back as it's more secure than the woodland in the back. She liked watching the birds and the cars. Initially our big dog Harvey was a bit too excited and she wasn't too sure about him. But the use of some treats to get him to walk to heel and lie quietly and she quickly started stalking him on her belly, rolling over if he looked at her. Then he had a chew and she checked out the garden, did 2 poos and a wee, then came in for a sleep. After that they were back in the garden and he was offering her his tennis ball to play with. By dinner time they were walking past each other without reacting and she had a sleep on my feet. She enjoyed her dinner with some of the food from the pouch and is now fast asleep on Lauren's lap. Thanks so much for this lovely addition to the family, weve had a wonderful first afternoon and know she's going to be much loved by all - even though she tried to eat my Dad's library book and nibbled his beard! Darla had a great night, woke up at 7 and had a wee and poo in the garden straight away. She had a run around the grass and is feeling brave enough to chase Harvey trying to get him to play. He's being very good as he's not sure how to play with her as she's so little. She's eating well, we just have to make sure Harvey doesn't distract her and then eat it when she's not looking. Kind regards Jane x A bit of footage of Luna, Saffron and Lottie taken today as they become two weeks old. I had to split the video for it to load up. Teagol is now heading towards six months old. She is the culmination of ten years of crossbreeding, three generations of our dogs and three breeds of dog. 5/8 Cavalier, 1/4 Brittany and 1/8 Poodle (miniature). We definitely have got the size down in most of the pups from their Mother, Blottie who is a first cross Cavalier/Brittany, using a second cross Dad, Ernest, who is 3/4 Cavalier and 1/4 Poodle (miniature). Achieving a very elegant head and impressive leathers (ears). All the breeds we have used have basically been bred with the original same purpose to be flushing, retrieving and/or pointing dogs. None of the breeds are hard wired bred for killing, so it produces a lovely soft mannered dog, very much keeping the Cavalier temperament. We will MRI scan Teagol as soon as she gets over one years old, and hope that we have managed to keep the CM free grade we got for her Mum, Blottie. Of course I think she is a stunning looking little spaniel, especially when you see her moving about, but I'm probably slightly biased. Just over a week ago Anne who has Dimpsey contacted me with updates for her. "Hello Jane Just a little update of Dimpsey ,she is quite tall ,a little under 14” at the shoulder but nicely in proportion. Training is going quite well ,we are working on her recall ,it is excellent as long as there are no other dogs in sight ,I put her on the long line as soon as I spot any in the distance ,as she takes off to go and play ,and tends to go deaf ,although this morning she did come straight back when she was called so we are getting there .I will try and get a good photo of her standing ,and another of her head to send you for comparison. Sounds like things are back on track. Reliable recall is one of the hardest things I think to install with a dog. Look forward to seeing any photos. Love from us all at Poundlane Jane x" "Hello again Jane I’ve just managed to measure Dimpsey properly she’s almost 15” not 14 “ So in comparison with the rest of her litter mates she’s quite a bit bigger , but she still seems very small compared to my beardies who were all around the20/21”and weighed around 20 to 25 kg Dimpsey is about 9 1/2 kg so far" "Hello Jane I’ve managed two photos of Dimpsey's head for you ,getting her to stand still long enough to get a decent photo is somewhat challenging but I will get one ! Love Anne " "Hello Anne, thanks for the photos and measuring her the other day. 14 inches at the shoulder, she was a bit taller than Teagol as a pup though, and Teagol is around 12 inches. At 14 inches at the shoulder and 9 1/2 kilos, she must have a nice robust, but light frame. Her head looks good. Lovely eyes, good muzzle length and not to severe a stop. She looks like her Dad Ernest. Great to see and I know Molly will love to see the photos of her. Kind regards Jane x" "Hi Jane Yes she is quite light boned and I can confirm that 14” is her correct height .I think she is nearer to 10 kg now ,she is a good trencherman and loves her food and treats She is nicely covered . She has a very good mouth and a good scissor bite ,lots of lovely new teeth ,I still use just the toothpaste on my finger at the moment which she is very pleased to let me do as she likes the taste ! Soon I shall try the finger brush very gently ,I don’t think she will mind .shes quite happy to let me trim her dew claws and just take the tips off of the rest ,she lays on her back on my lap while I do it ,something I couldn’t do with my beardies !! Regards Jane x" Yesterday I received an update for Bertie "Hi Jane, Here’s a few of photos of Bertie settling in. He is doing well and seems to be getting used to his new home. Toilet training is going well and he has been sleeping through until 7am the last few nights (touch wood this continues!) He does cry when I try to leave him in his playpen at the moment (just to go into the next room/upstairs) but I guess he’s just getting used to spending short periods on his own so will work on getting him used to this. Kind regards Jane" Darla has just left us and is on her way to Gloucestershire to become part of Louise's family. They already have a lot bigger crossbreed dog that came from a rescue center a few years ago, and Darla comes to their family to become their teenage daughter, Lauren's close companion. Darla has been a lot of fun to rear. A mischievous playful little pup, who's going to steal a lot of hearts. I wish you all the best Lauren with Darla. Darla got here a little while ago and is now having a little sleep on my Grandad, she seems very calm now. We ment to have Harvey, our Lab, stay at a friends house but the plans fell through and we introduced them as Harvey could smell her and kept making noises, she got a little upset, he also made some noises, so mum took him away, but when we introduced them again she barked at him when he was rude and when they settled we let them sniff each and the 3rd time things were mostly fine. Any way sorry for the ramble I'm just very happy and excited, Darla is so lovely and confident so thank you for helping bring her in into this world and thanks for letting me and our family bring her into ours. Also p.s the picture in this post almost looks like a royal painting :D" Treacle's pups are now three days old and thriving. Born with eyes closed and ears closed, they locate Mum by smell and touch alone. Eyes open any time from around 11 days old, but do not focus fully until around 28 days old. Ears start to open anytime from around 11 days, as well. |
