Ezra update: "He is doing really well"

30/10/2019

And I also got an update for Alfie's (previous blog) litter sibling, Ezra at the weekend. Very much like his brother, Ernest, but in black and tan, instead of black and white.
"Hi Jane,
I hope this finds you well.
Just a quick email with a recent photo of Ezra. He is doing really well, has started puppy classes which he enjoys and this past week he saw his first cow and also a hedgehog in the garden...all very exciting!
Kind regards,
Sam"

Lovely update arrived at the weekend for Alfie from Toby and Treacles litter, born the 09/07/2019. Unfortunately, I was unable to load the video up, but he looks to be growing in to a good looking young man with eyebrows to die for!
"Hi Jane,
Just wanted to send you a little update, Alfie has settled into family life really well. We have been enjoying are walks around the local duck ponds and Alfie has made lots of friends!
He has also starting attending puppy training classes with my 6yr old daughter Holly and I and he is coming along really well. He especially loves the playtime at the end of class when he gets let off the lead with other dogs!
I’ve attached a latest photo and a video for you.
Hope you are well
Adam"

Just Puddin'

Puddin'
Puddin' our little working cocker boy nearly 7 months old now, and looking to be an under 10 kilo dog at maturity, has the making of a true "Pocket rocket," as called by Chris Warren, when he checked his eyes a couple weeks ago. He asked me if he was a "Working cocker?" I said, "Does he look like a show cocker?" He then took a good look at him, and smiled. I got him up on my lap, and he checked his eyes, and after telling me, he's eyes were okay, he said, "You can leave this one here." He seemed rather taken with Puddin'.

Ernest has been showing Puddin' the ropes out in the woods, and I hope Puddin' can prove to be a pocket rocket like Ernest, come the first beat of the season for us the middle of November.

Old age don't come alone: On the meds

26/10/2019

It is a roll of dice with Cavaliers with Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) when you get that first sound of a murmur. Primrose's Dad, Charlie is over 13 and has only just started heart medications, her Mum, Ysobel's murur was first detected at just over 5 years old, and she is now over 12 years old and has yet to show any signs of Chronic Heart Failure (CHF). Unfortunately, her daughter, Primrose has not been so lucky. A slight murmur detected at just over five, and she turned 9 years old in August. All seemed well, she then had a problem with what was thought mild collapse of her trachea, which has settled down. Her heart murmur was getting louder, but the vet still considered her in good enough health to do a dental if I wished.
Then a couple weeks ago I noticed her Respiratory Rate at rest was increasing, and around 10 days ago I took her to the vets, and what I suspected was diagnosed. She was accumulating fluid on her lungs. She has entered the CHF stage. So she has now been put on Vetmedin and frusemide. By the next morning the frusemide had really done the trick, and a few days later on visiting the vets again, he was happy to give me a prescription for three months of Vetmedin and frusemide. I of course had to ask for a prescription. If I had got the Vetmedin from the vet it would of cost me for 90 x 1.25 mg tablets £53.43, but on the internet I sourced the same amount for only £18. With £12 for the prescription and £2.99 for post and packaging, I still saved £20.44. That's around a 200% markup at the vets for Vetmedin from what you can source it for over the internet.
She is doing really well at the moment on her medications and you would struggle to know anything was wrong with her, at a glance, until you place your hand against her rib cage over her heart. We now are in to How long is a piece of string? territory, but I know one thing, which I told the vet, as he spoke about the plethora of drugs we could use to give Primrose more time. "It's not about quantity now, it's about quality!"

Flossie (Casper and Blottie's litter 2019) has settled back in well, as she stays with us for a few days while Christel visits family. She still has tear stain due to a scarring of her tear ducts after the puppy strangles she had. Christel told me, that the opthamologist vet has said, to wait until she is fully grown, and then if the scarring has not settled down enough to resolve the tear staining issue, surgery to reduce the scarring is an option.

Foxy update:"loveable little minx"

Got a lovely update yesterday for Foxy from Tracy. She is from Ysobel's litter of all girls, born back in August 2009, so she is Primrose's litter sibling.  Foxy is the little star who had a Hernia (Inguinal) repaired at six weeks old, before leaving our care.
"Hi Jane ,
How are you doing, it’s been a long time since we last spoke.
Foxy girl is doing fantastic and has just turned 9 years old . Still the most adorable and loveable little minx . Still keeping me on my toes.
Here are some recent pictures
Best wishes
Tracy and Foxy"

Our Unexpected guest, Sadie went home yesterday after Obi had the all clear from the vets. Claire came to pick her up with Obi in tow and took some very nice photos of Sadie and Obi with their canine family. It was lovely having Sadie for a few days and to see what a beautiful little dog she has grown in to. I now have Sadie and Obi's litter sibling. Flossie here, whilst Christel is away visiting family.

Tried to load this last night, but it was having none of it. Funnily it loaded first time this morning. Not the best quality, due to the dim light, but it shows yesterday evening Sadie playing with big sis, Teagol and then Puddin' barging in, for Claire, Ross and their children to see Sadie is seeming to enjoy her stay with us. All the best for tomorrow with Obi's check up at the vets!

Making herself at home

Sadie, who is back with us for a few days, while her brother, Obi gets over being castrated, has made herself at home. We all think she looks like a mini Bertha. She is a very sweet little thing and a credit to Claire, Ross and their children.
