Was getting a bit of a tight squeeze for Blottie and her ten pups in the whelping box now at 19 days old, so today husband, David and me put together a bigger box for them. This box was made from the left overs from Project table. I salvaged the base of the old table I bought putting the tops of two other newer tables we had on it and the bases of these tables and the top of the old table are the base to the puppy box we made today, using bits of old wardrobe and bits of cut offs from picket fencing the place for the sides. I must admit to being pretty chuffed with the end result. David even commented on how happy I looked once installed and Blottie and her pups were exploring it. Really lovely to see the pups with more room and more room for their Mum to tend them comfortably. This litter of ten pups is the biggest we have had, with Blottie's Mum, Smudge previously holding the record with nine pups and that was a squeeze for her as they reached 3 weeks old in our whelping box. This box we made today gives the pups more room to play and explore movement, and also makes a nice box to make the next steps of toileting away from their sleeping area as they reach an age to explore beyond their puppy box and eventually start toileting outside.

Blottie and her pups now at 18 days old are going on really well. Time to start introducing toys to them as they are up for playing now with anyone and anything. Already happy to have cuddles and fall asleep in your arms. It also looks like we need to give them a bit more room in the next few days, as they get adventurous and more stable on their paws. The video was taken this evening just after Blottie had finished attending her pups and had departed the whelping box. Blottie's pups reached two weeks old on Christmas day and started their first three day course of Panacur worming. We worm our pups from two weeks old, every two weeks until eight weeks old.

Congratulations to Blottie-we can’t believe she had 10 healthy pups. So cute! I’m very jealous of their prospective new owners.
