Just thinking about 2019

Starting to look towards 2019. A lot will depend how we go forward on the results of MRI scans for Teagol and Lottie. Will the 5/8 Cavalier, 1/4 Brittany and 1/8 Poodle mix keep the amazing improvement we archived with our first cross Brittany/Cavaliers  MRI results arrive.
If we do keep the improvement introducing a bit more Cavalier, I may be tempted to put one of our Brittany/Cavalier girls back to a pure Cavalier. Probably Blottie as she is our biggest Brittany/Cavalier girl with the least Cavalier head morphology. Although the amazing ten puppies she produced with Ernest Looks like it's ten pups for Blottie, the temptation may be to great, to use this combination again, but you also want to be mindful when breeding dogs, not to put to many of your puppies in one basket. Blottie proved herself an amazing brood bitch with her first litter, it would be a shame not to truly utilize her genetics fully with a change of sire.
Sasha is one of our smaller Brittany/Cavalier girls (her Mum is Primrose), who will be two years old in a couple weeks time and will be MRI scanned once I have no puppies around. I think Ernest would suit her well for her first ever litter in 2019. If you know me though (have been following the blog for a while), I don't write anything in stone, and we really want to first see what's going on in Teagol and Lottie's skulls before we take our next tentative steps, but it does not hurt thinking about what could be next.

I have missed the reason why you have retired Reggie. I know that a brittany/cavalier with Reggie is not what you are working towards in terms of the pound lane spaniel but they would make gorgeous puppies. What ever you choose they will be beutiful, healthy puppies for any luck family!

You have not missed the retirement of Reggie. I just have not had a bitch for him.

I think the mix you are suggesting might be a bit hot for most and you would possibly lose any resemblance to the Cavalier.

Teagal looks an amazing spaniel, and Lottie aswell in different ways, hope you get the improved outcomes your wanting in the MRIs ,it all looks very complicated, and the healthy happy dogs you seem to produce are wonderful for the dogs and the families, what a lot of care and planning! So glad Jim may have a family soon, he's certainly touched a lot of heartstrings! Sasha also gets my vote, best wishes janyce.

Hi Jane - we too would welcome news of a litter in 2019. We too had talked about Jim at length but the time and mix were not quite right for us. We love Eva to bits and she is showing to be of wonderful temperament and a loving companion but I think she will be smaller than we had initially hoped not that this matters. Do you think you will use Reggie in the future? We'd love Eva to grow up with another Poundland pup so we will keep reading! Best wishes to you all x

Hello Sandie, we have no plans to use Reggie in the future. He has with our bitches and the four bitches we allowed him to be studded out to, somewhere in the region of 80 offspring. So I think he has left his mark. Ernest is his Grandson with just two litters has given Reggie 18 Great Grandchildren. He has done his bit for our breeding program.
He also will be eight years old in December, dogs fertility tends to decrease around six years on. There is though always the anecdotal dog that carries on with high fertility in to double figures. If I were to use him now. To be safe, you would really want to do a sperm count. You don't want to end up with a bitch only conceiving one or two pups. Which really ups the chances of c-section, as the smaller the litter the bigger the pups tend to be when born.
So I suppose he is sort of retired, but don't let him know that. He lives in hope!

I'm not sure the size dog you are looking for. My main worry when crossing is the dog may end up larger than a family wants, if they are looking for a Cavalier type dog. We are thinking about putting Ernest's sister Lily to Henry in 2019, producing a 1/2 Brittany, 1/8 Poodle and 3/8 Cavalier. This will be looking to improve her skull shape further, and we will hope to retain from this litter to eventually cross back to a pure Cavalier. I hope to produce a smallish very spaniel looking dog, athletic and elegant. Nothing written in stone yet though.

Kind regards Jane x

That sounds great Jane. I guess we are looking for something just a little larger than a cavalier, our first two girls weren't the largest of Cavaliers either. I love your Lily, I think she will produce some beauties and with Henri being your Brittany and larger..........we'll keep watching this space, Sandie x

Exciting news, I love hearing your thoughts and plans developing. Watching Albey's family grow and evolve is so interesting and makes us feel part of something very special. Albey in particular is very keen to get a new brother or cousin even! If he continues to be so adorable and it all works out we may very well be in contact in 2019! :) Love to you all xxxx
