A week ago or so I mentioned Optigen testing are Toy Poodle Rocco & said it was a swab which was a mistake as it is a blood sample they take to test & see if they carry the gene for Prcd (Progressive rod-cone degeneration) which is a tpe of PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy).
I have now downloaded the forms from Optigen & hope to get the blood sample kit soon so fingers crossed on this one, as what with Charlie failing his heart certificate the other day would like a bit of good news.
Charlie is doing really well after being neutered & have had a few inquiries to give him a retirement home. I have had a lovely couple conversation with someone from Hampshire & they are hopefully going to come & see him a week monday & are staying in the area for a couple days so are going to meet him & hopefully take him for a walk & get to know him a little & then if we are all happy Charlie hopefully might find his special home. When he leaves my care it has been explained that I will want an annual update on his health & happiness, also if any change of circumstances & they can not keep him he is to return to me. I feel guilty about rehoming Charlie but I do know that he is a very easy going happy dog who loves anyone & to find him a home like I think the lady from Hampshire will give him is something he deserves.
Roxy has just a couple days left with us now & she will join Tracey's family. She has been such a good girl & we hardly know we have her but when she leaves we will certainly notice her gone. We are planning to keep a couple Cavapoo girls & one boy in the not so distant future as we plan to breed second generation Cavapoos down the line. Keeping Roxy now for Tracey these extra weeks has convinced me of the merit of this lovely crossbreed even more & we will steadily & carefully look to go to the next stage of breeding second generation Cavapoos or known as F2 Cavapoos. My idea for the Cavapoo is to try & breed a Small low/non moulting Spaniel with sound confirmation, health & good temperment. I actually like the name Curly Coated Cavalier to Cavapoo or Cavoodle but the latter is what seems established as the name for the mixture of the Cavalier & Poodle.
Also you may of noticed on are "Future Arrivals" page we have changed stud dogs. Bonnie is now going to Rocco are Toy Poodle as we have decided not to breed any Cavaliers this year, see my blog "Dark Day!" for reason why. Lucinda was going to my sister's Miniature Poodle Rollo but we have now decided to use Rupert an Apricot, Miniature Poodle who stands at stud local to me. Andre who owns him is a very experienced breeder & her Rupert is Prcd tested clear & annually BVA eye tested, so we have decided to use him as I have the chance to use a different bloodline & we may keep back one of these Cavapoo pups as a potential Cavapoo Stud dog.
Lastly we have a new arrival that I have been keeping under my hat, we have called him Reginald or to his close friends Reggie. He is an eight week old Apricot, Miniature Poodle. We have been searching for this little boy for a while & when I found this little chap I did not want to let on to much until we new we had him. He came home with us yesterday & had a little trip up from Cornwall but did not get sick & after a little whimpering settled with me reasurring & cuddling him for the trip to his new home. He has settled right in with the pack & is a brave & very friendly little boy who has slept his first night here without a whimper. Have got some photo's of Reggie & one with him beside Roxy who is a Cavapoo so you can see the comparison between a pure Poodle & the Poodle cross Cavalier.
Have news of some of Lucy's Cavapoo pups & will post this in my next blog.
