So you have your heart set on getting a puppy for Christmas. Well, you might be in luck, as the 14th November "marks the beginning of a surge in puppies being illegally imported into Great Britain from Eastern Europe in time for the Christmas puppy purchase rush. A six month undercover investigation by Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, reveals the high level of corruption at the heart of the puppy smuggling trade, plus the worrying welfare risks imposed on both dogs and humans alike." The Puppy Smuggling Scandal . You can read the full report hear.
Can you imagine the conditions these pups are reared in, in a country with little to no regulation towards animal welfare and literally no policing of animal welfare laws. Then try and imagine the poor Mum's of these pups, because for every pup bought this Christmas in the UK by us the public that comes from Eastern Europe will give licence to it's poor Mother to be bred from again and again until she either dies in birth or becomes infertile and is smashed over the head and thrown out as if rubbish.
There is a simple answer to this problem. Only adult dogs (At least 6 months and over) can travel in and out of the UK without being quarantined.
“The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you,but he will make a fool of himself, too.”
