Flora update: "Fabulous at 4!"

4th Birthday greetings from Mollie's sister Flora for her litter siblings. Flora is from Smudge's litter of Cavapoos born this weekend just gone in 2014.
"Dear Jane,
Just a quick message from Flora , wishing her siblings a happy 4th birthday weekend. And of course love to Smudge and Reggie and all the poundlane pack!
Flora has had a great weekend in the glorious winter sunshine. She remains fit and well and full of energy, especially if there is a ball about. A few weeks ago she did experience temporary lameness of her back leg a couple of times so I took her to the vet. I think they thought me a bit neurotic - she virtually launched herself across the reception desk and was incredibly bouncy throughout her consultation- and very particularly not lame! Its not happened since so perhaps just making the appointment was the cure!
With very best wishes to you all.
Love from Lucy and Alan and 100 wags from Flora"
"Hello Lucy and Alan,

lovely to hear from you. Happy 4th Birthday to Flora!

Thanks for keeping in touch each year that passes. The lameness sounds like she might of just tweaked or twisted her cruciate ligament mildly, which is a common cause of hindleg lameness in dogs, especially if they like jumping around a lot.

Love from us all at Poundlane

Jane x"

Mollie update: Happy 4th Birthday!

25/2/2018

4th Birthday greetings from Mollie for her litter siblings arrived today in my emails. Mollie is from Smudge's litter of Cavapoos born this weekend in 2014.
Wishing her and her family a wonderful day on her 4th Birthday and also wishing her five litter siblings Kayla, Flora, Chester, Harvey and Jake, and their families a wonderful day.
"Hello everyone

I'm sending all of my brothers and sisters a very happy birthday wish. I hope you all have a nice day. My mum and dad say they can't believe I am 4 years old today, as it seems like only yesterday they collected me from Devon.   I have got a friend of mine staying for 5days and we are having so much fum, we play fight for a long time and then we just collapse.  He is a rescue jackawawa (we think) but he is lots of fun. I will send you a photo .

We've been watching the puppies as they are growing, they had so much fun the other day all running around I wish I had been there.

Have to go now it's time for round two of our playtime.

Happy Birthday to you all
Woof woof Mollie"
"Hello Rhian, Russ and Mollie,

those four years have flown by. Happy 4th Birthday Mollie. Thanks for keeping in touch over those four years. It's always really nice to hear how any Poundlane pup is getting on.

Hope it's not to cold over there in Wales.

Love from us all at Poundlane

Jane x"

Went grocery shopping with our three girls earlier today and picked up a CD of The Cranberries. Forgot how f--king good they were. I must admit a bit of eye irritation listening to this one.  Dolores O'Riordan through your music you will forever linger.

Puppies meet the chickens

24/2/2018

Lovely and bright here at the moment, but with an east wind blowing in. There is a real chill in the air, so you have to be careful with pups not to let them get chilled in this weather.
Today the five remaining pups of Blottie's litter of ten pups meet the chicken, which they did not seem over interested in. In the video you will hear me mention the family of magpies that started nicking my eggs last year. I kept finding eggs with holes in with the yolk totally gone, and then one day I saw a magpie going through the grill on the door, which enables us to leave the door open and air the stable through during the daytime. It then clicked what had been damaging the eggs the chicken were laying. I kept the door closed and the damage to the eggs stopped. I like magpies and have watched this family of magpies that were nicking my eggs growing through last year, an adult male and female with two young. They used to bring them in to our bird table and they have given me hours of pleasure watching their young growing and developing the cleverness these birds possess. They visited the bird table once a day, got their fill and did not seem to cause any major problems for the smaller birds that visit us.
Also you may note the damage to the bottom of the stable door, which was caused by rats. Around 12 years ago (just before we came back here to live) my Mum was struggling to maintain the property and was not using the stables. Whilst they were shut up not being used. They were colonized by rats and they gnawed around a foot up around each stable of the kick boards and the doors. The property was in a pretty bad state when we came back and bought in to it, so my mother could stay here. We built literally another bungalow on to the original bungalow and we have slowly improved the property and hopefully this summer we will get the back paddock fenced, and then this will give an area to have a bit more fun with the dogs.
The barking you will hear is Primrose, Toby and his sister Jessica hunting for rats in one of the stables.

Just my opinion: Shock and irony

As one trust, the Dogs Trust tries to ban Shock collars,  Call to ban sale of `cruel´ electric shock collars for dogs, another trust, the National Trust tries them out on cattle Cattle grazing and our new invisible fencing on Headley Heath
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, has compared the shock collars to caning a child, seems the National Trust don't mind caning cattle then Mr Johnson.
You can read my opinion on the use of shock collars
here and a first hand account of using a shock collar aka e-collar here

Blottie's pups still with us, have all now been out on a couple road trips and we also have had leads on them, whilst they run around our property outside, preparing them to leave us in a few weeks time, When their families pick them up. They all seem to take each new adventure in their stride.

Skye update: At the vets

20/2/2018

Jean and Nigel took Skye to the vets today for her second vaccinations.
"Hello Jane

Visit to the vets today for 2nd Vaccs: Skye was a superstar , not only did she take it in her stride , no issues at all . Complete Bill of health and weighing in at a healthy 3.25 kg

Both Vet and nurse took photos of her ( saying very pretty and adorable pup ) .

Vet was very impressed  and interested with your Poundlane project .
Nurse was equally impressed with your folder information pack say's she doesn't see this info often .
The trip to vet in car was a huge success. We used the crate for first time , previous car trips been on my or Toby( grandson) lap . She settled down well both journeys after a very short while .
Wishing you all well with the I imminent safe arrival of Bumbles pups and those very lucky new families .

Jean and her family xx"

"Hello Jean, good to hear all went well going to and from the vets (especially being good in the crate), and at the vets. Not long now before you can get her out for walks.

Thanks for the lovely photo of Skye, she looks and sounds like she is settling in really well. Jane x"
