What a scorcher today ! The dogs & pups have been sprawled out and today Kathy came & reserved the last Golden boy from Cleo's litter. Lola left us on Monday & hope all is going well and have heard from Joyce who has Millie's Meg & all is going well. Sorry Joyce for not yet replying your email. It does make life a lot easier with the pups when the weather is good. The Taw Valley that we live on the side of looks stunning now like a patch work quilt of greens, browns and now yellows as the sun will start to turn the corn. Have been to the vets on tuesday with Toby as he has been having trouble with his teeth. His second teeth have come through but some of his milk teeth did not want to leave causing him to have a sore mouth as this can cause pressure in the jaw. With Toby it has obviously been causing him discomfort with him sore to touch his mouth & drooling after chewing or eating & the teeth where steadfast, so it was best to surgically remove them. A simple procedure done under anesthetic & Toby is a much happier chap now. All the pups are doing well with Millie's Bayley leaving us this Sunday & Millie's Lindsey will be following on after him. Cleo's pups have just reached 7 weeks old & will soon start leaving us from after the 30th May. They are a bonnie little litter of Cavapoos. Smudge's litter of Cavapoos will be 4 weeks old tomorrow & three are already reserved with names now with Archie black collar, Crumble grey collar & Ollie brown collar. I must admit that the name Crumble I am rather taken with & that maybe one of ours will be a Crumble in the future. I have had a couple updates from pups which I must get up on my blog but one really important one is that Alison's & Ray's Maddie has had her eye operation for her cataract & she is doing well. She has got to be kept quiet for 2 months which is going to be hard but Maddie is a very placid tempered girl which will help. Alison also said that the surgeon said that it was not fully formed which looks like it is more likely not an hereditary cataract more likely from an injury. I hope I have that right Alison. Lets hope this weather stays around for a bit as its lovely to have the car windows open & music turned up. My music taste is very eclectic & if you want some fun with your children in the car get hold of "It ain't me, Babe !" sung by Johnny Cash, turn it up loud, all sing along with your windows wide open on a sunny day & I guarantee it will put a smile on all your faces or if you want to chill out try Bob Dylan's version. I have sung this song to my husband for the past 16 years & he has not taken the hint yet. Lol. He accused me of sexually harassing him tonight when he came home as he was changing out of his clothes that smelt like he'd been dipped in the slurry tank because I smacked him on the bum. I said in reply to his comment "after 16 years you should be so lucky !" Its nearly the end of the week again & I am burning the midnight oil doing a blog. Try not to be on the computer past 10pm but as I had not blogged since Sunday & a busy four days ahead, so I thought it might be wise to get a blog done tonight. The weather is so cold at the moment for May & yesterday morning I was milking & got the cows in from the fields in the morning with hales bouncing of my head. I was dressed like it was the middle of winter & felt cold, mind you feeling cold could be me showing my age.lol We have three of Millie's pups still with us Lola, Lindsey & Bayley. Lola leaves on Monday, then Bayley a week Sunday. Lindsey will leave just after Bayley. Bayley is proving a bit of a photogenic chap as I think you will agree looking through the photo's tonight. He does look the most like mum & seems very laid back. The only problem with keeping a pup on a bit longer for people is that you get that bit more attached but I know Glenda he is going to a home where he is going to be so loved. Lola is a character & into everything. Very brave, so look out James she is going to whirlwind into your life. Hope you got to see her lamb jumps on the video with Scrappy I posted at the weekend. Lindsey's personality is coming out & although not quite as in your face as Lola she is happy to push her boundaries to explore further & play & be nursed. She will hopefully be great comfort to you Caroline & your family in the coming months. Cleo's Cavapoo pups are now just over 6 weeks old & hopefully subject to viewing have all found homes. They are characters & although 2 & a 1/2 weeks younger than Millie's pups they hold their own in their company. Smudge's large brood of 9 Cavapoo pups hit 3 weeks old tomorrow which I do not know where those three weeks went (another thing I have noticed about getting older time seems to fly , have'nt figured out quite where yet though !) They are a lively bunch & we have already had a couple escapies out over the whelping box, which is early as we normally expect the great escape artists to start around 4 weeks old. Well, I think its time to rebot now for me ! Smudge's brood of 9 Cavapoo pups are now 16 days old. Smudge has surpassed herself in caring for her large brood as a first time mum but with Millie as her mum its no surprise really that she has coped so well. Smudge has more than inherited her mum's calm gentle nature which helps when nursing your young. My husband caught this funny video today of Scrappy encountering a new toy on the patio & not being quite sure what to do with it until Lola shows him.
Warning: Keep the sound down whilst watching as a lot of back ground noise from dogs & children. Scrappy's sister's Meg & Ruby left us on Saturday & have heard that they both travelled home okay & are settling in well. Well here they are, all seven of Millie's Cavapoo pups. Ready now to go off into their new homes. The two boys Bayley & Scrappy will be staying on for a couple more weeks but their sister's will all leave in the next week or so. If you want to know how I got them to stay still long enough for these snaps, the trick is to wait until they are all asleep & then wake them one at a time. Just as their waking you get them still long enough to get a capture of them. Been busy this morning with the puppy photo shoot, getting all their paper work & puppy packs ready. Now I sit here seeing them all one after the other on the computer & you cannot help but feel a tug on the old heart. On Saturday Millie's Cavapoo pups will start to leave us, so tomorrow I will get mugshots done of all her pups to put on the blog with their names before they go on their ways & will get their puppy bags ready for them to leave. This is Millie's last litter & if Belle had not been an unexpected addition to our pack I would of kept back one of these pups but I have had to be realistic & can only keep so many dogs & give them the care & attention they need & thrive on. Belle though is like other dogs who have been unexpected additions to our pack, a bit of a character but in a very lovely, cheeky & good way. The children love her & my oldest said the other day " I did not want Belle to of hurt her leg but I am sort of glad it happened as we would not have her otherwise." That sort of sums up how nice Belle is & if she did not keep bringing big clats of mud in the back house she would be perfect.lol Caught Bayley & Ruby today having a go on one of my children's skate boards. Unfortunately I only caught this one photo of them on it as I could not find my camera fast enough. Glenda & Lisa you know what your going to have to go & get now before picking them up, is a puppy crash hat & some puppy knee pads.lol
All is well at Poundlane after the long weekend with viewing of Cleo's pups & my weekend relief milking, 5am starts & late nights as we get Millie's pups clean over night. Have made little time to blog. Millie's pups had their microchips done at the vets yesterday & the two boys who are staying until 10 weeks old started their vaccine course. They also had a check over by the vet. They all seemed to take this little trip in their little strides. These pups now will start to leave us this weekend for their new homes, which always seems so far away when they are first born but suddenly the day is here. Cleo's pups are now 5 weeks old today & are now old enough & strong enough to hold their own mixing with Millie's pups who are just over 2 weeks older than them. Smudge's large brood of 9 pups are doing really well & today at 12 days old their eyes are starting to open, so watch out now. Quick blog tonight before the bank holiday weekend with visitors to view Cleo's litter each day & one family visiting to take a peek at Smudge's pups at a week old as they only live at Exeter. At the moment having three litters at the same time at one week old, just over four weeks old & nearly 7 weeks old its a great chance to see these stages & realise the phenomenal growth a pup makes in their first weeks of life. Just realised Smudge's pups are a week old. Where did that week go. Will be very busy this weekend, so may struggle to get on the computer for a couple days. Have a good weekend everyone & everyone visiting me this weekend have a good trip down. Smudge's 9 Cavapoo pups are all thriving & are now 5 days old. Smudge is super mum taking this bumper first litter in her stride & is such a testament to the temperment of her parents. Smudge is a very calm gentle girl & her Mum & Dad both are very loving gentle dogs. Earlier today as I watched Smudge gentle cleaning her little charge's I noticed some white marks on the bedding then realised it was coning from her as she was stood cleaning her pups she was dripping with milk. Cavalier Mum's are known for their mothering skills. Smudge is proving this fact, as she not only provides sustenance for her pups but also keeps them spotlessly clean. My mum's Cleo's Cavapoo pups are now 4 weeks old & are just starting to explore further. This weekend all these pups will get to meet the families they will be joining as they visit us & meet these little chaps & the one little girl in this litter. Hope the weather hold out for the weekend. What a lovely day. The sun finally put an appearance in for the whole day & with the birds in full song life could not feel better. We are very lucky where we live & on days like this with our stunning panoramic view over the Taw valley seeing right to the top of Exmoor I count my blessings. Living in the countryside is not for everyone but it suits me just fine. Millie's Cavapoo pups have really enjoyed the sunshine being out on the patio most of the day making for some lovely photo opportunities. Now just over 6 weeks old they are into every thing. |
