All puppies okay , feeling that rain and seeing further than a Cavalier's nose

5/8/2013

Ysobel's Cavapoo pups are now 5 days old and thriving. The smallest boy is catching up with his siblings and his nearest pup in size at birth he has nearly caught up with in size.
Ysobel is well and taking having her last litter in her stride.
Dolly's Cavapoo litter are now just over seven weeks old and next Saturday her first pup Dex will leave us to join his sister Luna's (Luna is from Dolly's litter before this one) family. Debbie asked if she could have Dex at 8 weeks which we are happy to do, as long as your vet has the same or compatible vaccine to do the second vaccination and understand that your pup will have to be restricted where they go out for at least seven days after the second vaccine, so taking at 8 weeks will mean at least 3 weeks of restricting your pups access to public areas where other dogs go.
Dex is a character and loves his mummy and when sleeping if Mum's about you will find him snuggled up with her.
I have started putting Dex's things together in preparation for his new home and I'm sure he will settle in pretty quickly with big sis to keep him company. Look forward to seeing you Saturday Debbie, Sean and Luna.
We have certainly been feeling the rain here in North Devon the last few days and yesterday in the early hours as I walked out across the field calling the cows, with the rain driving me out across the field I new that I was going to feel the rain when I enviatable had to turn around to walk back in behind the cows. Mind the cows did not need much bidding but I had to walk out over the fields just to check no one was left behind.  Sheppie their sheep dog who normally is  by the gate ready to help me get the cows was no where to be seen, making me wonder if he's become a fair weather worker but he's getting a little hard of hearing so maybe the warmth of his straw bed in the barn had made his slumber deep that he did not hear me arrive. Can't blame him for not coming out in such rain, as when I arrived back in the yard with all the cows I could of quite happily climbed in beside him if it had not been for the fact that feeling all that rain against your face certainly removes the sleep from you.
Its been very wet today which makes a lot of washing, with lots of towels being used on wet pups and wet dogs. Not really been weather for photo opportunities. The two photo's below show Henry sitting funnily on my lap after jumping up a little startled by one of our daughters doing karate on her space hopper cow and the other is an interesting photo of Henry with Jessica showing how short the Cavalier's nose is to a dog that has what would be seen as a normal length of nose. The origanl small spaniels of King Charles II time would not have had such shortened faces but would of just been smaller versions of the bigger spaniel types at the time and I hope in time we can breed a Cavalier that more truly reflects the type of small spaniel that was admired in the Royal courts and keep their sporting nose.
I will get updates I have been sent of Poundlane pups on soon and will hope to get on with some emailing tomorrow, as surprised I have been able to blog today (can't see across the valley at the moment due to mist and rain) with this weather, as normally we lose connection in this weather but at the moment it just takes for ever to load up any thing on the computer, which can me more frustrating than no connection.
