Over the wall !

10/11/2011

Dolly's pups are now 12 days old & just starting to see their eyes open. Have just had to slide in a higher plank at the front of Dolly's whelping box as twice today one of the black pups has managed to get over the lower plank & found sucking Mum who was lying just the other side. Although still unseeing & unable to hear they are getting quite mobile & can be seen taking their first wobbly steps. The sense of smell the pups have is pheonomenal as you watch Mum arrive & just by smell alone the litter will turn straight towards Mum & straddle & now wobbly towards her & at arrival use the smell of her milk & touch to locate a teat. They can be fooled slightly with sucking as when we are nursing them they will happily suction on to your finger, top lip or ear lobe but soon realise they are not getting any milk.
The children are now making regular visits to nurse the pups & get them used to being handled. We have had several wet hands tonight as the boys bits only have to have a slight touch & they wee. The girls already at this age are slightly more refined & you tend to escape with a dry hand after nursing them. My children are used to pups & their accidents but do not appreciate it when its a sticky poopy hand that they get from nursing a pup at this young age.
At this age bodily functions are encouraged by Mum licking them & then Mum cleans it all up to, so nursing a pup at this age can stimulate the effect Mum has when licking them. Around 3 to 4 weeks they start to control their own motions without needing encouragement from Mum although Mum is still happy to clean up the mess.
Ysabel' pups are a week old today & they are all doing really well with Tinkerbell looking more like Tubbywell. Ysabel is happy for her daughter to visit her half siblings as a couple days ago she just wandered in with Ysabel & Ysabel was unconcerned having Primrose with her but no other dog at this time is allowed in at this time. Normally from 4 to 5 weeks Mum relaxes of & allows pups to mingle in the pack.
Some photo's of the rest of the gang tonight & a video of Dolly showing one way if your little how to feed 8 growing pups. Enjoy !

Beautiful. Wow. You must be very proud. We would love to take one of these pups home with us. Are there any cavapoos available?
Many thanks
Steve

Ah Jane all the puppies look lovely! Dolly seems to be taking everything in her stride, the sound of them all sucking is soooo sweet. Your daughter Molly has got so BIG love the photo's of her giving Reggie cuddles, they look like they are best friends. Roxy is sound asleep as I type this comment she has just been for a good run with her friends & is now curled up in a tiny ball. Hope that the cold has gone & that the rest of your family are keeping well.

Best Wishes

Tracey xx

Lovely pictures of both sets of puppies. The Mum's seem very relaxed about it all and the pups look like they are growing by the hour!

Hi jane,

lovely pictures and I still enjoy the updates, takes me back to when Alfie was born and I was on the computer checking every hour, seems like it was only yesterday, the pups look like they are coming on a treat, so well done to Dolly and Ysabel and of course you with all your hard work.

Tracey I have taken the plunge with Alfie and he is no longer in a crate when we go out, he has been fine and just sits in the window watching the world go by, he is a talking point in the village and the children love to wave at him when they walk by, thanks for your encouragement.

best wishes

Hello Vanessa,

I read your comment while on the train with Paul & Jodie on our way to wembley to see the England V Spain.
I couldn't agree with you more it does only seem like yesterday that we too were checking the computer every hour for updates on Roxy, it really is quite scary how quick the time goes. Roxy will be one on the 3rd Dec it feels like she has been here forever. So pleased that you have taken the plunge with Alfie now you have done it there will be no turning back & I know if I was to see him sitting in the window I would give him a wave too. Looking forward to the next update on Alfie.

Best Wishes

Tracey xx

Hi Jane,

No wonder your pups are in such demand, you have done a wonderful job with all fourteen of them. Glad to see Reggie is getting cuddles too, daddies sometimes get overlooked. Looking forward the next up date.

Best regards
Glenda
