I like dogs in general, with a soft spot for spaniels, but I also have a great fondness for hounds. Having spent a lot of time working with and following hounds in my younger years. The hounds I have experience of are harriers, foxhounds and what I consider the commando of hounds, the beagle.
Hounds have the most expressive eyes and recently I found this beautiful painting of a couple of foxhounds which catches that expressiveness. The painting is by Heywood Hardy (1842-1933) who was an accomplished etcher and illustrator of a variety of hunting and coaching scenes, sporting subjects and genre pictures, principally with an eighteenth century feel.

“The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you,but he will make a fool of himself, too.”
